Managing Setbacks & Challenges

Life is riddled with experiences that shape and form us, setbacks are often part of those experiences. We all want to move forward every day in the direction we want to take our lives, I believe that is embedded in us as human beings. That is to strive for better and improve, which can be in any aspect of our life. A setback can leave you thinking many things, whether you should continue, change course or recalibrate what it is you are trying to attain. What I believe is paramount when you come across a setback is to have faith. Whatever you define faith to be, some it may be religion, for others it may be thinking positive. Ask yourself what do you have to lose by having faith? You basically have two choices; to be down and out mentally or look forward with belief you will find a way. As part of this mentality it's important you reframe the setback as an opportunity to grow. No matter what you are trying to attain bear in mind life is going to test you. Life is also trying to teach you, setbacks may force you to really think hard about many things. Here are some tips I hope you find helpful:


1. In general, people admire more what you overcame versus what you went through. Everyone has challenges and setbacks, people want to be inspired by you, be that inspiration as a model others can look to to overcome their own challenges.


2. Look at who you are becoming not what you are getting. Many of the things we strive for is temporary, however who you become is usually permanent.


3. Focus on what you can control.


4. Surround yourself with people that will encourage you. I am not talking about false praise, but people who understand your passion and sincerely believe in you.


5. You are stronger than know. You hear it often when people or their loved ones go through a serious disease or event. Break down your challenges into manageable pieces and try to not look too far ahead too often.
